Professional tennis events return to Edmond with $125,000 in prize money

Professional tennis is returning to Edmond Center Court in October with two events offering a combined $125,000 in prize money.
The OK Pro Series Invitational begins Oct. 3 with a $25,000 event featuring men’s and women’s matches in a World Team Tennis-style format.
The ITF | USTA Edmond Open Women’s Professional 100 will follow from Oct. 12-18. Organizers said the W100 tournament offers $100,000 in prize money and 100 WTA ranking points.
The tournament allows players to improve their world rankings and work toward qualifying for larger WTA tournaments and Grand Slam events, organizers said.
“To be able to host a W100 and bring players to Edmond who are competing at Grand Slams like the US Open is pretty remarkable,” said David Minihan, general manager of Edmond Center Court. “It’s also a great opportunity for our Oklahoma community to experience world-class professional tennis right here in Edmond.”
Organizers said the events are also intended to inspire young Oklahoma tennis players by giving them an up-close look at the professional level.
Hosting the tournaments requires Edmond Center Court staff to coordinate courts, officials, player services, transportation, volunteers and hospitality, tournament officials said.
More than 300 volunteers helped provide support for players and fans during last year’s event.
