Quarter-Final Lineups Confirmed as Team India Battles Afghanistan in Knockout Clash

The stage is officially set for the knockout rounds of the men's cricket competition at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, following the conclusion of the group stage fixtures on Saturday afternoon. Asia’s top-seeded cricketing powerhouses—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh—who received direct entry into the quarter-finals, have now learned their opponents following intense preliminary round battles. In the marquee matchup of the round, defending champions India are slated to lock horns against dangerous underdogs Afghanistan in the second quarter-final on Sunday, September 28. Meanwhile, qualifying breakthroughs by Hong Kong, Nepal, and Malaysia have finalized a high-stakes, eight-nation bracket contending for continental podium glory.

The preliminary phase witnessed competitive round-robin battles across two three-team groups at the picturesque Japanese venue:

Group A Qualification: Featuring Nepal, Afghanistan, and tournament hosts Japan, Group A saw clinical performances from the two continental test-playing/associate contenders, with Nepal and Afghanistan punching their tickets to the final eight while eliminating Japan.

Group B Dynamics: Group B, comprising Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Oman, produced fierce encounters that saw Malaysia and Hong Kong secure the top two advancing slots, bringing an early end to Oman’s campaign.

Quarter-Final Draw Finalized: The four advancing qualifiers join the top four seeded sides—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh—to establish an action-packed, single-elimination quarter-final roster.
