Raptors Get Devastating Kawhi Leonard Injury Update

Raptors star Kawhi Leonard faces an extended absence as a troubling knee injury update raises concerns about his return.
Raptors Get Devastating Kawhi Leonard Injury Update

The Toronto Raptors have received troubling news regarding Kawhi Leonard, with their star forward now expected to miss significantly more time than initially anticipated.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Leonard is expected to be sidelined for at least three to four weeks as he continues dealing with swelling in his left knee.

The update comes just two days after Toronto announced that Leonard would undergo treatment and rehabilitation before being reevaluated in one week. Although medical imaging revealed no acute injury, the latest timeline suggests the Raptors will be without their biggest offseason acquisition for much of November.

Haynes reported that Toronto must wait for the inflammation in Leonard's knee to subside before determining the next steps in his recovery.

That means the three-to-four-week timetable does not necessarily guarantee his return, creating additional uncertainty surrounding his availability. The setback is particularly disappointing considering the excitement surrounding Leonard's return to Toronto.

The seven-time All-Star rejoined the Raptors during the offseason after spending seven seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He also agreed to a reported $115 million contract extension.

Leonard previously helped lead Toronto to its first NBA championship in 2019, earning NBA Finals MVP honors after a memorable postseason run.

His return was expected to provide the Raptors with another proven scorer and experienced leader alongside Scottie Barnes.

However, Leonard has appeared in just two games this season, averaging 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals while playing approximately 26 minutes per contest.

The 35-year-old was a late scratch before Sunday's matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, raising concerns about his health.

Leonard's latest injury also continues a troubling pattern of knee problems that have interrupted his career.

With their star forward unavailable, Toronto will need increased production from Barnes, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference.

The Raptors must now navigate a difficult stretch without the player they brought back to help elevate their championship aspirations.

With Leonard expected to miss several weeks, Toronto must find a way to remain competitive while allowing its star forward the time he needs to recover.

What was supposed to be an exciting new chapter for Leonard and the Raptors has quickly turned into an early test of patience. His eventual return could provide a significant boost, but until then, Toronto will have to prove it can move forward without the player it brought back to help lead the franchise.
