Scored 108 off 34 balls at a staggering strike rate of 327.27, featuring nine boundaries and 11 massive sixes.

New Delhi: Indian opening batsman Abhishek Sharma smashed cricket records on Thursday, blasting a historic 30-ball century against Afghanistan in the final T20 International at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The explosive left-hander dismantled the Afghan bowling attack from the very first over under the lights in Delhi. His relentless power-hitting rapidly guided India to 132 runs without loss inside the first nine overs, leaving the opposition completely defenceless.

The historic moment arrived during the 8.3 over mark against the bowling of Abdollah Ahmadzai. Facing a full delivery pitched up around off stump, Sharma executed a drive down to long-off with a straight bat face to secure the single needed for his milestone. On air, commentator Murali Kartik informed viewers that this was officially the fastest T20I century scored by anyone representing a Test-playing nation.

Upon completing the historic run, the 26-year-old removed his helmet and raised both arms to soak in the applause from the rapturous crowd. He then dropped down on his haunches into a serene yoga pose with his eyes closed, pointing to the sky in a unique post-century celebration.

Statistically Unprecedented

Sharma's 30-ball blitz eclipsed the previous Indian record of 35 balls, which was set by Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka in 2017. His blistering innings at a strike rate of 327.27 was decorated with nine boundaries and 11 colossal sixes.

He was dismissed for 108 runs off 34 balls, caught behind off Rashid Khan's bowling.
