Roofs go on as Point Grey works head for December completion

New facilities for the Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club and Lorne Fishermen’s Cooperative are due to be completed by December as the $12.6m redevelopment of Point Grey enters its final months.
Both buildings have now been framed and roofed, with internal fitouts under way.
The co-op building will include a display space highlighting the history of the area.
Community group Friends of Lorne had requested a couta boat be suspended from the co-op’s ceiling to recognise the town’s fishing heritage, but the request was rejected because the roof is not high enough.
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) said the display would instead be informed by an art and history strategy being developed with local historians and community groups.
The Point Grey pier temporarily closed to the public in mid-February for seawall upgrades and reopened in June.
The pier will close again from Monday 14 September to 18 September and from 5–9 October to allow work along the Doug Stirling Track and foreshore.
GORCAPA released a request for tender in August for an operator to run the cafe inside the co-op.
The authority is also seeking expressions of interest for a seasonal mobile food and beverage van at Point Grey.
The van would operate from 5–8pm daily between Boxing Day and Australia Day and during Victorian school holidays.
The Point Grey redevelopment is part of the Geelong City Deal.
