RUGBY UNION - Coventry Rugby run in 11 tries to secure first win of season against Cornish Pirates

And further tries from Tom Bacon, Matt McNab, Api Bavadra, Morgan Strong, Josh Barton and Dan Green, along with 18 points from the boot of Bruce Houston, saw Coventry pile on the points.
Coventry bounced back from defeat against Rotherham Titans in style as Rae’s men put the Pirates to the sword in Coventry’s first home game of the campaign.
The Pirates crossed for the game’s first try courtesy of Dan Hiscocks only for Bacon to hit back for Coventry as Houston added the extras to level the scores.
And home skipper Poole then emerged from a driving maul with the ball to cross for Coventry’s second try as Houston converted.
The hosts extended their lead when McNab finished in the corner after he gathered Tommy Mathews’ cross-field kick and Houston stayed perfect from the kicking tee.
And Bavadra scored Coventry’s bonus point try after he broke through the Pirates defence and scored under the posts as Houston converted.
Strong then scored an unconverted try from another driving maul to put Coventry 26 points ahead only for Milo Hallam to score the away side’s second try to reduce the deficit.
However, Coventry had Strong sent to the sin-bin and the Pirates made the most of the extra player when Alessandro Heaney dotted down.
And the Pirates crossed for a bonus point try before the break when Harry Ascherl touched down with Coventry’s lead reduced to seven points at the interval.
Reeves was next to cross for the home side when he finished a flowing move as Houston again added the extras.
Coventry passed a half-century of points when Barton dotted down before Green and the returning Opoku-Fordjour both crossed to put the home side 40 points ahead.
Tries from Matt Pritchard and Jamie Clark reduced the deficit but Reeves crossed for the game’s final try as Houston’s conversion completed the scoring.
Coventry are next in action against Nottingham on Friday, October 2 with kick-off at 7.45pm at The Bay.
