Rugby World Cup 2027: what we know so far from Scotland's opponents, dates, UK kick off times and how to watch

The 2026/26 rugby season is back up and running with Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh having both kicked off their URC campaigns with wins.

We’ll also see the Scotland men’s national team return to action in a little over a month with the second set of fixtures from the inaugural Nations Championship being played in November. They will then, of course, be back in February as the 2027 Six Nations Championship rolls around.

There will be plenty of league and European action involving the players across that time and the season all culminates with the Rugby World Cup, which kicks off one year from today. As excitement for that tournament builds, here is everything we know so far including who Scotland will play, when and where the matches will take place and more:

Scotland have been drawn in Pool D for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. They will face Ireland, Uruguay and Portugal.

Here are the dates and venues for each game:

Gregor Townsend’s side then have a number of options for who they will face and when they make it out of the pool stage. Here are the scenarios, dates and venues for those possible fixtures:

Quarter-final fixtures will be played on October 30 and 31 in Sydney and Brisbane while semi-final fixtures will be played in Sydney on November 5 and 6. The 2027 Rugby World Cup final will be played in Sydney on November 13 while the Bronze final (third place decider) will also be played in Sydney on November 12.

Scotland’s opening match against Uruguay will kick off at 7:15am in the UK, that’s 4:15pm in Melbourne. Scotland vs Ireland will kick off at 10:45am UK time which is 5:45pm in Perth while Scotland vs Portugal kicks off at 7:15am UK time which is 4:15pm in Brisbane.

If you can’t make it to Australia then you can watch the action from the 2027 Rugby World Cup, including all of Scotland’s matches, exclusively on ITV and STV. That means that all fixtures will be free to air in the United Kingdom.

Scottish Rugby have not confirmed an official date for the 2027 Rugby World Cup squad announcement. However, in recent years the squad announcement has been made around four to six weeks in advance of the tournament kicking off.
