Ryan García says he is not interested in replacing Canelo Álvarez at Mexican commemorative dates

American boxer Ryan Garcia clarified his stance regarding protagonism at the commemorative dates of international boxing, traditionally headed by Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.

In the face of his upcoming commitments on the squad, the welter monarch of the World Boxing Council (CMB) stressed that he does not seek to displace any colleagues, although he recognizes that the discipline goes through a natural transition between different generations of wrestlers.

The adjustment in the annual calendar of the sport became evident with the reprogramming of the star days of the season. With Canelo Álvarez focused on his October 31 duel against Christian Mbilli in Saudi territory, the dates of May and September were occupied by other high-profile confrontations.

In this scenario, Ryan García took the star turn for the September match against British Conor Benn, assuring that his main goal is to contribute to the growth of the discipline.

Evaluating this panorama during a dialogue granted to Fight Hub, Ryan García explained his perception of the evolution of star players in the boxing industry: “I’m not trying to think too much about taking the dates away from somebody. I feel that in life there is always a change of guard and somebody has to become the successor somehow. I’m here to keep raising the sport and evolving with it.”

The sports horizon for the Californian fighter envisions the possibility of leading large-scale roles during the weekend of May 5, 2027. Options on the agenda include unification contests against champions such as Teófimo López or Devin Haney, as long as he successfully surpasses his previous commitments within the 147 pounds.

The possibility of taking on those commemorative dates represents a commitment of technical and organizational requirement for the fighting team.

Ryan García reiterated his willingness to guarantee competitive shows in case of fighting in those days: “That would be incredible. If I’m going to occupy those dates, you can be sure I’ll face great fighters and make sure events are always special. I will also bring my best version to each fight. So, as I said, I’ll be ready for those opportunities when they come.”
