Saints HC reveals big Alvin Kamara news for Week 2 vs. Ravens

This update is a big one for the Saints and Alvin Kamara for Week 2.
Saints HC reveals big Alvin Kamara news for Week 2 vs. Ravens

The New Orleans Saints lost their Week 1 matchup to the Detroit Lions, and while Tyler Shough and the offense looked horrible in the first half, they turned things around in the second half and overtime.

One of the storylines of the game, however, was the running back split. Travis Etienne Jr., the new big-money free agent pickup, didn't exactly have as large a role as expected. Looking forward to Week 2, that role might shrink even further.

As Jeff Nowak shared Wednesday at Kellen Moore's press conference, running back Alvin Kamara's status for Week 2 looks all but certain to be active, as he was nearly able to suit up in Week 1 against the Lions.

"Kellen Moore says Alvin Kamara probably could've played against the Lions, but they held him out due to limited time on task," Nowak shared. "Sounds like he's got a good shot to play in Week 2."

While there's no guarantee that Kamara is going to play in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, the signs are pointing towards Kamara suiting up in this matchup.

Kamara reportedly could've played in Week 1 if it weren't for the fact that he hasn't been playing with the team enough for Moore to fully trust him.

Now, looking ahead to Week 2, the already questionable running back split might be divided even more. Etienne ran the ball nine times for 46 yards, while Keandre Miller ran it nine times for 30 yards and a touchdown. CJ Donaldson also ran it twice for four yards.

In the passing game, where Kamara is most likely to do the most work, Etienne caught seven of nine targets for 32 yards, while Donaldson caught one of two targets for negative two yards.

This Ravens matchup is likely to be challenging, which could lead to the Saints throwing the ball more often to try and play catch-up.

Kamara will see playing time on passing downs, assuming he's active. Etienne's nine targets are surely going to drop, with Kamara likely to get some of the passing work, and Shough is not likely to throw 56 times as he did against the Lions.

Following his full Wednesday practice participation and this commentary from Moore, it seems clear that Kamara will be suiting up for the Saints in Week 2 against the Ravens.
