Sale Sharks send Glasgow Warriors warning shot as several Scotland stars absent from French and English action

Sale Sharks and Toulon are heading into their upcoming Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup fixtures with Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh on the back of domestic victories.

The Salford outfit picked up a 28-24 win at home to PREM strugglers Harlequins on Sunday, with Scotland duo Arron Reed and Gus Warr linking up for a try. The winger took contact on the back of a set piece play before the scrum-half spotted a gap and darted over.

Over in France, it was a 29-15 home win for Toulon against Racing 92 in the Top 14. Ben White and Huw Jones were both named amongst the replacements for the hosts and came on after 64 minutes and 75 minutes respectively.

Back in England and the game of the weekend came from Franklin’s Gardens, where Northampton Saints beat Bath 71-48. Cam Redpath playing the full 80 for the visitors and Finn Russell kicked five conversions plus a penalty. Josh Bayliss scored a try in the second half, having been shown a first half yellow card, while Rory Hutchinson played the full 80 for Saints. Ex-Scotland under-20 hooker Robbie Smith was a 57th-minute replacement.

Cameron Henderson continues to feature heavily for Leicester Tigers, playing another full 80 minutes at lock in their 38-31 win over Gloucester. Will Hurd came off the bench after 56 minutes for Tigers.

Tom Jordan was absent from the Bristol Bears side as they lost 30-7 away to Saracens. No injury update was provided in the build-up, so he appears to have just been rested.

Fergus Burke came on after 65 minutes for the hosts, replacing centre Sione Va'eneku, with Owen Farrell moved to that position. He then left the field on 74 minutes for a HIA, the outcome of which does not yet appear to have been verified.

Back in France and ex-Scotland captain Stuart Hogg scored a try in Montpellier’s 30-22 defeat away to Stade Francais. Ali Price and Alex Masibaka were both second-half replacements in that match for the away team.

Jonny Gray and Dave Cherry faced off as Perpignan beat Vannes 21-12 and were both replaced after 49 minutes. Meanwhile, Blair Kinghorn remains absent for Toulouse, missing their 45-34 home win over Bayonne with an unspecified muscular issue.
