Sean Sharaf ‘pretty sure’ he remembers Gable Steveson and Jon Jones encounter that Daniel Cormier overlooked

Sean Sharaf was asked for his verdict on Daniel Cormier’s brutal assessment of Gable Steveson and Jon Jones after his sensational UFC 331 win this month.

Gable Steveson was seen as the clear favorite going into the heavyweight fight at UFC 331 after the huge hype that surrounded Jon Jones’ MMA protege.

However, Sean Sharaf spoiled the party for Steveson at the Staples Center after the 33-year-old heavyweight fighter produced a stunning upset in Los Angeles.

Steveson was caught early in the UFC 331 fight and Sharaf knocked out the 26-year-old American with a series of punches before having his hand raised on the night.

Sean Sharaf knocked out the Olympic gold medalist in 12 seconds.

Jon Jones was heavily criticised after UFC 331 when it was spotted that Gable Steveson was taken straight out of the octagon before the result was read out.

Daniel Cormier criticised former UFC rival Jones for the decision after Steveson suffered the first defeat of his fledgling professional MMA career.

“Look, I think Gable made some mistakes in there,” ‘DC’ said during UFC 331’s post-fight show this month, as per MMA Junkie.

“You’re a 4-0 fighter. Wrestle. You have to… and also, you stand there, and you take your lick whenever you lose. Let that man get his hand raised, and you stand there no matter how you feel.”

Sean Sharaf insisted that he “vividly” remembers shaking hands with both Steveson and Jones after the fight, despite not seeing what happened with the controversy.

“I’m pretty sure I shook his [Steveson] hand,” he told Demetrious Johnson’s Mighty YouTube channel.

“Like, I [shook their hands] before they left. There was so much that like went through [my head]. I remember vividly I shook his [Steveson] hand and I shook Jon’s hand before they walked out.

“But I haven’t seen any camera footage of it. But when he walked out, they said it was like ‘rage-quitting’ the game, man. It makes that s— that much funnier, you know?”

Sharaf was critical of Steveson being withdrawn immediately after his UFC 331 win and felt that it was important for his opponent to be ‘humbled’ when he did lose.

Despite his admiration for UFC legend Jones, Sharaf did not pass up the opportunity to take a swipe at Steveson by using his cornerman and mentor’s name.

“Like, you just rage quit, you know?” he added.

“And that just goes, like, to show [that] you can’t just be such an amazing winner and then not be able to humble yourself when you lose, you know, like that’s just what it is.

“But they also said — I don’t give a f— — this s—‘s hilarious. They’re like Jones told him, ‘If you flee the scene, it doesn’t count.’”

Jones has since spoken out after Daniel Cormier’s criticism and insisted that he was the one who made the call to withdraw Steveson to the backstage at UFC 331.
