Per the team’s policy, the term and financial details weren’t disclosed.

Warsofsky has made an impact as the team’s bench boss in very short order. When he was hired as an assistant coach in 2022, the Sharks were in the midst of a rebuild, with no end in sight. After David Quinn was let go after the 2023-24 campaign, Warsofsky was promoted to the top job. He came in at the right time, as the team had just drafted Macklin Celebrini first overall, along with a wealth of other young talent.

The first season didn’t quite go to plan, with the Sharks finishing with just 52 points, good for the worst record in the NHL. However, it seemed like the stars started to align in the North Marshfield, Mass.’ native’s second campaign in the Golden State. With Celebrini having his own coming-out party, finishing fourth in the league with 115 points, San Jose was able to compete for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot in the very strange Pacific Division.

The Sharks stumbled late in the season, falling to fifth in the Pacific Division, finishing just four points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Yet optimism skyrocketed with the team’s promising effort in 2026-27, with many believing San Jose is extremely close to qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2019.

In his two years with the Sharks, Warsofsky has guided the team to a 59-85-20 record. He also has a winning pedigree outside of the NHL. With the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves, he guided the team to Calder Cups in 2019 and 2022. He was also the bench boss for the United States at the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship, helping the team win its first gold medal in the event in 92 years.
