Shifnal Town begin hunt for new boss after shock exit

Shifnal Town have begun the search for a new manager after the shock departure of boss Connor Patterson and several players.
The promotion-winning manager has joined North West Counties outfit Dawley Town, with goalkeeper Andy Wycherley and midfielders Cian Fenlon and Jack Hodnett also making the switch.
Patterson’s exit was confirmed on Saturday evening after he was missing from the dugout for the club’s 2-0 defeat to Lower Breck.
Club captain Kyle Bennett has been placed in interim charge and will select the team for Tuesday’s Northern Premier League West Division trip to Vauxhall Motors.
Chairman Mike Tranter revealed how Patterson, who had been in charge since 2023, contacted him on Thursday to explain his intentions.
“He sent me a message saying he was under a lot of pressure and he was leaving,” said Tranter.
“I was going to have a meeting with him but obviously that did not take place.
“He has left and I wish him all the best. We have parted on good terms. I have nothing but praise for what he did for the club.
“We will need a few weeks to regroup and get a new manager in. We move on.”
Tranter said the club had already been “inundated” with applications for the newly vacant post.
Asked if he was disappointed at the manner of Patterson’s exit, he replied: “Nothing surprises me in football.
“I have been in the game for 65 years and been there, done it and got the T-shirt.
“I wish him all the best and we move on.
“We’ve already had plenty of interest, we’ve even had one from abroad. We’ve had a good few years and have put a lot of time, effort and money into the club. That will continue.”
