Silva Reveals Heartwarming Origin Of UFC Barking

Jean Silva's signature pre-fight barking has a backstory rooted in childhood loneliness and a loyal Rottweiler.

The UFC featherweight contender, who headlines Noche UFC 4 this weekend against Jose Delgado in Glendale, told Spinnin Backfist that the intimidation tactic stems from his school days. Silva described himself as a loner who found companionship in his brother's Rottweiler. "It was a really good friend to me, and who hasn't barked at a dog?" Silva said, per BJ Penn.com. "That just became a thing for me, and I have a great relationship with the dog."

Silva has become a fan favorite in the 145-pound division with recent victories over Arnold Allen, Bryce Mitchell, and Drew Dober. The barking ritual started instinctively and stuck despite people finding it odd. "Good memories from back then; it was a great time and a good memory that I had," Silva added.

A win over Delgado could position Silva for a No. 1 contender bout. Silva was originally scheduled to face Yair Rodriguez in the Noche UFC 4 main event before Delgado stepped up for the biggest opportunity of his career.

Silva will likely bark at Delgado during fight week ahead of their Saturday clash.
