Barker has enjoyed a strong start to his second season in charge of Simba, going on a 12-game winning streak in all competitions since losing the Community Shield against Young Africans SC at the beginning of the campaign.

Simba are currently top of the Tanzanian Premier League with eight wins from eight games, while also leading the Reds of Msimbazi to the CAF Champions League.

According to Tanzanian publication Mwanaspoti, chairman of the Simba board of directors, Crescentius Magori, has praised Barker for the team's performances this season.

"So far, I think the work of building the squad is progressing well," he said.

"We have great confidence in the technical team under coach Steve Barker. He has shown that he is the right coach for Simba to continue trusting," he added.

Magori added that the club have no intention of letting the former Stellenbosch coach go amid speculation of a switch to Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Regarding his contract, the coach still has a contract that expires next year, but Simba wants to continue with him so he can keep improving the quality of the squad," Magori continued.

"We will continue looking at the possibility of improving our contractual relationship with him. We want him to stay here," the director added.
