Smith Bloodies Brown In Dominant Decision Win

Jacobe Smith stayed undefeated at UFC Vegas 123, overwhelming Randy Brown with three rounds of relentless wrestling and ground control that left the veteran bloodied and shut out on the scorecards.

Smith secured multiple takedowns across all three rounds and opened a gash on Brown's head with slicing elbows in the second, according to MMA Fighting. The unbeaten welterweight controlled position from guard and side control, landing body shots and hammering away with short elbows whenever Brown tried to work from his back. All three judges scored the fight 30-26 for Smith, who improved to 5-0 inside the Octagon.

The Dallas native wasted no time after the decision was read, telling the crowd he wanted a ranked opponent next. "It just solidifies the greatness and the hard work with the people I surround myself with," Smith said, per MMA Fighting. "Dallas, what's up baby? Give me somebody. Ya'll got [Gabriel] Bonfim? Sean Brady?"

Brown struggled to find answers on the feet or the mat. BJPenn.com reported that Smith landed heavy calf kicks early before shooting in for his first takedown late in round one. Brown attempted a rubber guard and threw elbows from his back in the second, but Smith broke through and connected with the elbow that split him open. The cut bled freely for the remainder of the fight.

In the third, Smith secured another takedown and briefly locked up a crucifix from side control before Brown scrambled back to full guard. Smith continued grinding away with body shots and short elbows until the final horn, leaving Brown's face streaked with blood and his two-fight skid extended to three.

Smith returns to action four weeks after stopping Bruce Whitehead in the first round at UFC 332. With five straight UFC wins and no losses as a pro, he appears set for a step up in competition when the promotion books him next.
