SOCCER: Surf Coast FC again

Surf Coast FC boys under-13C won their grand final against Barwon FC 2-0.

Surf Coast FC has celebrated a record season on and off the field, with grand final success matched by unprecedented growth in participation.

Club president Brett King said more than 950 players registered with the club in 2026, the highest number in its history and the second-most in Victoria.

The club’s MiniRoos program was also the largest in Victoria, with about 470 players across almost 50 teams.

“It’s certainly a record for us,” King said.

“It actually turns out to be the second most players in the entire state, so that’s an amazing achievement in its own right.”

The growth was matched by success on the field, with Surf Coast FC claiming five grand final victories across local and representative competitions.

The club’s senior women won the Division 1 title and grand final, while junior girls and boys under-13 sides also won their grand finals.

King said the club could not be prouder of their players’ efforts across the 2025 season.

Alongside on-field development, the club has focused on creating connections between players, families and local businesses through events away from the pitch.

King said creating a strong community of networks for the club members is just as important as their game performances.

The club has also worked to create pathways for players of all abilities, from those wanting to play socially through to those seeking advanced development opportunities.

King said growing participation from younger players was important for the future of the club and football in the region.

“Having kids in that 14, 15, 16, 17, 18-year-old age that want to play sport with us is just so empowering and so rewarding,” he said.

King said the club’s growth from the grassroots level was helping build a strong future for football on the Surf Coast.

The club will host trials for its junior pathway program teams in the coming fortnight. Further information can be found at surfcoastfc.com
