Steve Belichick resigns from role as North Carolina defensive coordinator

Steve Belichick is out at North Carolina: University of North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has resigned, according to a school statement released on Thursday.
Belichick, the 39-year-old son of former Patriots head coach (and current UNC head coach) Bill Belichick, had been on medical leave since August 6. He will officially leave the school’s football program on Oct. 27 when his leave concludes.
The school released a statement shortly after the news broke, noting that it has concluded its investigation into “allegations related to culture and climate within the Carolina football program.”
The investigation concluded that despite “certain actions” showing a “disregard for Carolina’s values and standards of conduct,” the issues were not widespread.
“These actions were isolated in scope and not a systemic failure.”
Belichick’s resignation comes less than a month after the former UNC general manager Michael Lombardi also resigned (having been on paid leave) due to the investigation.
Simultaneous to the internal investigation at the program, UNC has started the season 2-0. The Tar Heels face Clemson on Saturday at 12 p.m.
