Sunderland v AZ Alkmaar team news as Reinildo available for Europa League opener

Sunderland begin their Europa League campaign against AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday night, their first European outing in 53 years. Both camps have issued team updates ahead of kick-off.

According to Sunderland Echo, head coaches Régis Le Bris and Leeroy Echteld delivered updates in Tuesday’s press conferences on Wearside.

Reinildo is available, as his one-game ban for the red card in the 2-0 Arsenal game applies only to Premier League fixtures and will take effect at Manchester City on Sunday. U21 players Timur Tutierov and Tom Proctor trained with the senior squad on Tuesday, though they may not be required.

Midfielder Kees Smit has travelled after a groin problem ruled him out of the last two games and has been passed fit to play some part.

Habib Diarra is out with a significant hamstring injury sustained during a cameo against Fulham and will be absent until after the upcoming international break.

Romaine Mundle has suffered a significant knee injury and is not expected back until around the festive period.

Juan Riquelme Angulo has started training with his team-mates, however he is not registered for the Europa League phase and will not be involved.
