Terence Crawford has made a bold claim about his boxing legacy. The undefeated former champion believes his resume is far more impressive than Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA record.
Crawford said the difference between their careers is “night and day” while pointing to the quality and variety of opponents he has faced.Crawford also highlighted his decision to move up two weight divisions to fight Canelo Álvarez. The American boxer believes taking on elite opponents across several weight classes gives his career an edge. Crawford retired undefeated after becoming an undisputed champion in multiple divisions.
Terence Crawford has never been short of confidence when discussing his place among boxing’s greats. His latest comments put his career resume directly against that of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The American believes his achievements in boxing stand above Khabib’s accomplishments in MMA.
“I’ve fought everybody there is to fight. Moving up two divisions to fight Canelo? My record is more impressive, for sure”, he said via Complex Sports.
Crawford’s biggest argument is the range of challenges he accepted during his career. He competed across multiple weight classes and continued moving up to face bigger opponents. His most notable recent challenge came against Canelo Álvarez. Crawford moved up two divisions to meet the Mexican superstar. The fight gave him another opportunity to test himself against one of boxing’s biggest names.Crawford entered that fight with an undefeated record and an undisputed championship legacy.
He had already established himself as a champion in multiple divisions. His career included major wins across lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight. Crawford became undisputed at light welterweight and later achieved the same feat at welterweight. He then moved into the super middleweight division for his showdown with Canelo. That willingness to move through the divisions is central to Crawford’s argument.Khabib’s career followed a different path. The Russian retired with a perfect 29-0 MMA record. He spent most of his career competing at lightweight and became one of the most dominant champions in UFC history.Khabib defeated several elite opponents during his run. His wins included Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. However, unlike Crawford, Khabib did not move through several weight classes during his UFC career.
He remained at lightweight and retired as the division’s champion. The two athletes also competed in different sports, making direct comparisons difficult.Boxing and MMA have different ranking systems, championship structures and weight divisions. Fighters also face different styles and physical demands depending on their sport.
Crawford’s comments are therefore based on how he values the strength and variety of his opponents. His undefeated record remains one of the defining parts of his legacy. The Canelo fight also added another major name to a career built around championship success.Khabib, meanwhile, retired without a defeat and with a 29-0 record. His unbeaten run included a dominant UFC title reign. Both fighters finished their careers undefeated and established themselves as major figures in combat sports.
