The ‘Biker Chain’ match – WWE No Mercy 2003 | WON Flashback

October 19 2003 was the date of WWE No Mercy that year, and the main event was Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker in a Biker Chain WWE Championship match. Our own Dave Meltzer would describe it as a match that “dragged,” with one of the bigger being that the chain gimmick didn’t even really come into play until nearer the end.
Here is what Dave had to say about Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker at WWE No Mercy 2003:
“Brock Lesnar beat Undertaker (Mark Calaway) to keep the WWE title in a biker chain match in 24:17. This match went too long and dragged, and I don’t think either guy came out of it all that strong. I thought it was the weakest of their three PPV bouts and hurt what had been a good show up to this point. Undertaker used a la magistral early, which Tazz noted was a Lucha move. Lesnar used a fisherman suplex, which they called a Perfect flex. I guess this was tribute night. Undertaker went for the chain on the pole a first time, but all the lights went out. I guess the idea was he couldn’t climb in the dark, because he was back down when the lights came on. Undertaker used a piledriver on the stairs, and he went through extra lengths to protect Lesnar on that one. Undertaker did a lot of submissions, including both a triangle and a reverse triangle, but the people aren’t into UFC moves as they haven’t been put over enough on TV.
“Lesnar power bombed his way out of a triangle. Lesnar hit an F-5, but Undertaker got his foot on the ropes. Lesnar went to the top, but Undertaker choke slammed him off the top. Undertaker finally went for the chain, but Nunzio climbed up to stop him. Nunzio managed to get the chain and take a bump to the floor. At this point, Chuck Palumbo and Johnny Stamboli hit the ring, but Undertaker laid them out and cleaned house on them fast. Undertaker gave Lesnar the last ride, and then did pretty spectacular running dive over the top onto Palumbo & Stamboli. Undertaker came into the ring and got the chain, but Vince came out and shoved Undertaker, who crotched himself on the ropes. This gave Lesnar time to get the chain and he KO’d Undertaker with one punch and got the pin. **”
