‘These Are Little, Little Tests’: Aakash Chopra Wants Gurnoor Brar Tested Across Formats

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that keeping pacer Gurnoor Brar reserved only for the Tests won't be the right move. Brar was included in the Test series against Sri Lanka; however, he didn't play a game. India's next Test series will be against New Zealand in November. Chopra said that Test cricket does happen frequently, and if players are not playing, then it'll be difficult to understand what form they're in before a series.

Chopra also highlighted that a pacer like Brar could be a good fit for the fast and bouncy conditions during the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

"It's a good thought, but is it the right thought? That question will definitely be there because Test cricket happens very sporadically. A series ended just now in August, and then you will see a Test series in November. After that, you will get to see the next Test series in January end," Chopra responded to a query on his YouTube channel.

"It happens so sporadically that you say whether you will play him this only. How would it work out if you are going to play him this only? It's also on your mind that the ODI World Cup is approaching. We might need pace and bounce in the ODI World Cup in South Africa. Gurnoor Brar is a bowler who has just started," he observed.

Chopra backed the idea of Brar playing across formats as it'll give BCCI a clear idea of how he'd perform in different conditions and formats.

"If someone has just started, you also want to give him a lot of opportunities, that he should play ODIs and T20Is as well, in different conditions and situations, because you don't know how he would perform and respond. These are little, little tests you want to keep taking consistently, just to know that by the time the World Cup comes, our man is ready," Chopra elaborated.
