Golf icon Tiger Woods has been told whether he will still be permitted to drive a golf buggy in the wake of his five-year ban from driving.

The 50-year-old was arrested in Jupiter Island in Florida after rolling over his Land Rover when trying to overtake a pick-up truck towing a trailer.

Although nobody was injured, Woods had to crawl through the passenger door of his Land Rover to free himself from the car.

Investigators found two white pills, identified as prescription opioid hydrocodone, during a search of his vehicle. He went on to spend eight hours in prison before being released on bail.

Woods subsequently pleaded guilty to reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test. At a hearing on Wednesday, his driving license was suspended for five years.

Woods' chaotic relationship with driving is nothing new. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs back in 2017, and in 2021 he was involved in a car crash.

However, with Woods now eligible for the PGA Champions Tour - a senior's tour for golfers aged 50 and over where golf buggies are used - the question as to whether his ban would prevent him from driving one soon came up after his arrest.

DeSantis wrote on X: "Tiger should be able to drive a golf cart on the golf course. People that lose their license aren’t typically barred from driving a golf cart on a golf course."

Woods has yet to confirm whether he has any interest in competing on the Champions Tour. Following his arrest, he released a statement confirming that he would be stepping away from the sport to seek treatment for health issues.

The last time he played competitively was over two years ago in July 2024, when he featured in the 152nd Open Championship. Many see it as inevitable that he will return to the course at some point, though.

For as much as his driving ban may impact him personally, it will not affect Woods professionally.
