Tom Aspinall’s favorite fighter Georges St-Pierre shares concern in reaction to title vacation

Georges St-Pierre is hopeful that Tom Aspinall will be able to make a full recovery.
Aspinall was recently called honorable for announcing that he had chosen to vacate the heavyweight title due to further complications with his health.
With his return being pushed back, he made the call to not hold the division up, though Ciryl Gane hasn’t been promoted to undisputed champion.
A fighter from whom the Brit has taken a lot of inspiration recently shared his thoughts on this latest update.
Tom Aspinall learned valuable lessons from hearing Georges St-Pierre speak about how he would combat the anxiety that comes with stepping inside the Octagon.
The two UFC stars now share another thing in common following the heavyweight title being vacated.
‘GSP’ has previously ended two of his title reigns by choosing to give up the belt, with him letting go of the middleweight belt in 2017 due to health complications preventing him from competing.
St-Pierre recently shared his reaction to Aspinall’s recent update when commenting on the biggest stories in the sport.
“Yeah, it sucks,” he told Covers. “I hope his eye will be okay. I got a little concerned. I hope he’s going to be back with his vision 100%. Health is the most precious gift life gives you, so it’s the number one priority.”
St-Pierre went on to speak about how unfortunate this is for Aspinall in particular, who has lost several years of his career due to circumstances that he couldn’t control.
“I mean it shows that the injury was pretty serious when it happened,” he continued. “He had a lot of critics but you know, you get poked in the eyes, it could be a retina detachment, there’s so many problems that can happen from that particular situation. I just hope his vision comes back 100% and we see him compete again. He’s a very entertaining fighter. He’s one of my favorite fighters to watch.”
Tom Aspinall has previously ranked Georges St-Pierre as the best fighter in the history of MMA.
Given how highly he rates the legendary former welterweight and middleweight champion, the first time he came into contact with ‘GSP’ was clearly a moment that meant a lot to the Brit.
“Let me just tell you, this morning, the greatest UFC fighter of all-time, GSP, commented on my picture,” Aspinall said on The MMA Hour following his win over Alexander Volkov in 2022. “Oh my goodness. … Honestly, I had goosebumps. I couldn’t believe it. GSP, man! Oh my goodness.”
