Tyson Fury has launched a furious attack on Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn after a dispute reportedly put their long-awaited fight at risk. The heavyweight rivals were only recently confirmed to meet on December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, but questions have now emerged over whether the event will go ahead as planned.Fury has directly blamed Joshua and Hearn for the latest uncertainty. Speaking in a video from his training camp, the former heavyweight champion claimed that the pair were trying to walk away from the fight. He also suggested that Hearn’s involvement was making the situation more difficult.
Fury did not hold back when discussing the reported dispute. He accused Joshua and Hearn of threatening to pull out and used strong language while criticizing both men.“Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn are trying to pull out of this fight,” Fury said, according to reports from MMA Fighting and Yahoo Sports.Fury then called Joshua and Hearn “cowards” and argued that their disagreement was putting one of the biggest fights in British boxing at risk. He also made it clear that he remains ready to face Joshua and claimed he had already been willing to consider different locations during negotiations.
For Fury, the issue appears to be separate from the actual fight. He wants the attention to remain on the long-awaited meeting between two of Britain’s biggest heavyweight names rather than disagreements over who should be involved in promoting the event. The timing of his comments has added to the drama because the fight had only just been officially announced. Fury and Joshua are scheduled to meet on December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with Netflix set to carry the event worldwide. BBC Sport and The Independent also reported the date and venue following the announcement.
The reported disagreement centers on Dana White and his role in promoting the event. According to Netflix’s announcement, Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring will work with White to promote the fight. That arrangement has reportedly caused concern for Hearn, who has objected to White being involved. The dispute appears to be linked to the promotional agreement surrounding Joshua and what was originally agreed between the different parties.Sky Sports reported that White has defended his involvement and said he will have a role in staging the fight. Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, whose report was cited by Yahoo Sports, said Joshua and Hearn want the existing agreement to be followed, while Alalshikh wants White involved.
For now, the December 11 fight has not officially been cancelled. Joshua and Hearn had not publicly responded to Fury’s latest comments as of September 26, while discussions over other options were reportedly taking place in case the Cardiff event cannot move forward. After years of waiting for Fury and Joshua to finally share the ring, a disagreement outside it has now created another unexpected hurdle. For the moment, the fight remains scheduled, but the promotional dispute has left fans waiting for clarity.
