Ilia Topuria has broken his social media silence to make a fiery allegation against Justin Gaethje. This comes after he suffered the first defeat of his career against the American in brutal fashion back in June.
The Spanish-Georgian fighter went into the UFC Freedom 250 card as clear favourite, but the fight couldn't have gone worse for him - outside of the second round, it was one-way traffic.
The American had badly bloodied his opponent with a left-right combination in the third round, leading to an extended break after the round in which doctors seemed to suggest the fight should end.
However, referee Marc Goddard appeared to overrule the doctor’s desire to stop the fight over concerns regarding Topuria’s vision.
Gaethje won the main event via TKO when Topuria's corner eventually stopped the fight because of the injuries inflicted.
After securing the UFC lightweight title, Gaethje was greeted by USA President Donald Trump in the Octagon, who was hosting the event to celebrate his 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary.
'El Matador' left the Octagon with non-displaced fractures of both orbital bones, with his right eye suffering worse damage.
The damage to his face means Topuria will be more susceptible to serious injury in the future. However, despite this, he is back on the horse, and he's letting the world know he's ready to return to action.
Topuria took to X to reveal he's now clear to fight again while also making a huge accusation against Gaethje alongside the statement.
The 29-year-old, who hadn't posted on the platform since before their fight in June, broke his silence by saying: "Final medical tests done. I’m back. To all the clowns who’ve been talking s*** and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls. Thanks to everyone for the support.
"Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon."
Gaethje fired back at the accusation in a reply that said: "94 days and the best you could come up with is a lame excuse. As terrible as your last performance. Do better, kid."
The lightweight champ also discussed the allegation with a fan in a video posted on X a few hours later.
"People don't believe that. I've done that to everybody's face that I fought. Am I willing to [rematch him]? I just beat the s*** out of him, of course I would. That's not the way to [try and get a rematch]."
Even though Gaethje ruled out a rematch following the fight in June, it seems like another contest between the two is now dead in the water following this incident - leaving Topuria searching for his next opponent.
