Sofia Montenegro dreamed of putting on a show in her UFC debut. Instead, the Argentinian flyweight lived through an absolute nightmare at UFC Paris on Saturday.
Montenegro squared off against hometown favorite Delphine Benouaich to kick off the prelims at the Accor Arena. Both fighters were making their first walk into the Octagon, but Benouaich wasted no time taking complete control.
The French fighter dominated the action on the mat and landed a steady stream of ground-and-pound strikes. Her attacks opened deep cuts across Montenegro’s face. Blood soon covered both fighters and the canvas.
Benouaich continued her attack through the second round. She eventually locked Montenegro in a choke and forced her unconscious. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Medical staff quickly attended to Montenegro. Once they cleaned the blood from her face, several deep cuts and lacerations became visible.
Montenegro, who is 27, entered the UFC after a difficult path to the promotion. She faced Jeisla Chaves on Dana White’s Contender Series in late 2025 and lost a narrow split decision. The fight impressed UFC officials enough to earn both women UFC contracts.
That opportunity finally brought Montenegro to Paris for her first UFC appearance. However, Benouaich gave her little room to settle into the fight.
The win also marked an important moment for Benouaich. The French fighter moved her professional record to 8-2 with the win. She previously reached the semifinals of Season 34 of The Ultimate Fighter.
The strawweight fight opened a busy afternoon of action in the French capital. Fans then turned their attention to the main event, which featured veteran Dan Hooker against French star Salahdine Parnasse in a major lightweight matchup.
For Montenegro, though, the night will remain memorable for a very different reason. Her first UFC fight ended in a painful defeat, with her face covered in cuts after two difficult rounds.
