UFC Vegas 122 star breaks silence after being cut from the roster following 7.5 pound weight miss

Ismael Bonfim has posted a video addressing his supporters following the end of his UFC run.
With his spot on the roster already hanging in the balance, Bonfim missed weight by 7.5 pounds ahead of his return this past weekend in Las Vegas.
The older brother of welterweight contender Gabriel Bonfim stepped inside the Octagon with his back firmly against the wall on Saturday night.
After being stopped inside the first round, the writing looked to be on the wall for the Brazilian, and he has now shared his reaction.
Ismael Bonfim’s team may have had a reason for his huge weight miss but he still needed to produce something special on Saturday night to make up for it.
After he was stopped in the first round by Francisco Prado, reports came out on October 12 that he’d been removed from the roster.
Bonfim confirmed this when reflecting on his time in the UFC in a video posted on his Instagram.
The 30-year-old made it clear, with his comments translated from Portuguese, that he’s keeping his head up and looking ahead to the future.
“Hey everyone. So, stopping by to chat a little with you,” he said. “A lot of people are messaging me, and I can’t respond because there are so many messages. I didn’t even imagine it and I want to tell you all that I am well. I’m well, thank God… I want to say that we’re not going to stop. We will keep going. Yeah, it’s not the end and there’s a lot of stuff to still happen.
“I’d like to thank UFC here,” Bonfim continued. “It was five years of a lot of learning and the UFC changed my life. I can only be grateful, man. I’m feeling a great deal of gratitude and I’m okay. Let’s stop with this feeling of a wake, nobody died. Nobody died, that’s rebuked, get out of here with bad energy. Let’s go for it. Tomorrow, I’m back in training.”
The Brazilian, who competed seven times inside the Octagon, also thanked his supporters and his team before adding that he’s turning his attention to his brother’s upcoming fight and helping him.
After winning his contract on the Contender Series, Ismael Bonfim announced himself as part of the UFC roster back in 2023.
Both he and his brother debuted on the same card in Brazil (UFC 283) and secured finishes.
Ismael won a Performance of the Night bonus for knocking out Terrance McKinney with a flying knee, before being submitted by Benoit Saint-Denis in his next outing.
While he was able to bounce back with a win, this would be the last time he’d get his hand raised inside the Octagon, with four consecutive stoppage losses bringing his run to an end.
