Coco Gauff produced a strong comeback to beat fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2 on Wednesday and reach the US Open semifinals.
The 2023 champion struggled badly in the opening set, with Andreeva taking control early at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Russian won the first four games and did not face a single break point in the set.
Gauff made 14 unforced errors in the opener, while Andreeva committed only five, allowing the fifth seed to take the set comfortably.
The contest changed in the second set as Gauff settled into her rhythm. Both players exchanged breaks twice before the set moved into a tiebreak.
Andreeva came within touching distance of victory, but Gauff saved two match points and turned the momentum in her favour. One of the key moments came during a 39-shot rally, which Gauff won with a well-placed backhand.
After taking the tiebreak, the American carried that confidence into the deciding set.

Gauff broke Andreeva in the third game, prompting a frustrated reaction from the Russian, who threw her racket towards her bench.
The American then tightened her grip on the match and broke Andreeva to love in the seventh game. Gauff closed out the contest with a forehand winner before celebrating.
Gauff will take on Elena Rybakina in the semifinal.
