Very small percentage of Man Utd fans believe simply sacking Michael Carrick will solve the problems

We asked Manchester United supporters for a verdict on stopping the club’s decline. Here is a look at the telling response.

There is no escaping Manchester United’s woeful start to the season. Michael Carrick’s side have won only two games in all competitions, from 10 matches.

United supporters have seen the pattern repeat itself in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. If results continue like this, Michael Carrick could pay with his job.

Following Lisandro Martinez’s outburst against the board, we asked fans on Talking Points what United should do?

The responses from supporters were quite eye-opening, showing that only five per cent of fans are in favour of simply sacking Michael Carrick.

These responses illustrate that while United supporters may fear Carrick will get the boot, only a very small percentage agree this would actually solve the club’s problems.

We wrote last week that United should not allow another manager to take the fall. It has happened too often over the past decade.

The only real acceptable change would be a double exit that sees much-maligned technical director Jason Wilcox axed too.

More than half of respondents want Jason Wilcox to be fired.

A further 22 per cent believe a double change of Wilcox and Carrick being sacked would be the correct move.

This would be the most radical option available to Ineos, but it could be the smartest if Carrick’s replacement had a ready-made synergy with the new technical director.

Let us know what you expect Manchester United to do? Could decisions be made before the end of this month?

Results could still turn Manchester United fans further against Michael Carrick. A home defeat to Bournemouth next weekend could be catastrophic for him.

United have only managed seven points from seven league games. The last Premier League victory was in August.

But even if Carrick gets the boot, the pressure on Jason Wilcox will only amplify.

Wilcox was in charge when United hired Ruben Amorim, the fired him, and then Michael Carrick on a permanent basis earlier this year.

The club’s poor transfer dealings were rightly highlighted by Lisandro Martinez, and the scrutiny on the technical director won’t go away.

Unless there is change at the top – Carrick’s replacement will likely suffer the same problems.
