Victor Wembanyama gives his honest take on having a signature move in the NBA

Victor Wembanyama seems to be working on his game behind the scenes, which involves some new useful moves.
Victor Wembanyama gives his honest take on having a signature move in the NBA

San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has cemented his place as one of the best players in the NBA. He is a defensive monster who can protect the rim like no other. On the other hand, he can be dominant on offense, but he does not have that signature move that other top players do.

In the current crop of players, there are stars with go-to moves like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's step-back and Nikola Jokic's Sombor Shuffle. Wembanyama does not have that, and it seems that he does not plan on having only one go-to move.

Considering that Wembanyama is a 7'5" behemoth, there are plenty of ways he can have a signature move. Megastars like Shaquille O'Neal used their physical strengths to their advantage with his drop step and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with his sky hook.

The latter is what people want to see from Wembanyama, which is an unblockable shot, especially with his height and length. However, that is harder than most people realize because no one has replicated the sky hook's effectiveness ever since Kareem retired in the late 1980s.

Wembanyama has admitted that he is working on his game behind the scenes. That is a good sign for the Spurs because they will have Wembanyama as a more versatile player on offense, which only boosts their chances of winning.

"Of course. Hopefully, yeah. It's always a challenge to balance individual development and team goals because for every one of us, we're not out there to work on our game. We're here to win games... I feel like a signature shot is something you look back on and make the conclusion this is their signature shot. So it's not the goal to create a signature shot, but go-to moves; yes it is," Wembanyama said in a post-game interview.

That is a healthy mindset to have, as there is a delicate balance between individual development and team success. Sometimes, a player has to hone their skills to fit their goals, and Wembanyama seems to be looking for the right balance at the moment.
