Wales Six Nations hero lands coaching role in big career move

Former Wales centre Scott Williams is set to join Super Rygbi Cymru side Carmarthen Quins as an attack coach, WalesOnline understands.

The 36-year-old is regarded as a promising young coach and is expected to begin work with the Quins this week, bringing a wealth of playing experience to the club as they look to improve their fortunes.

Williams has already built up coaching experience with Coleg Sir Gar and Scarlets U18s, while WalesOnline understands he is also being considered for a role within the Scarlets academy.

The former Wales centre won 58 caps for his country during an international career that saw him establish himself as a highly respected figure in Welsh rugby.

He is now looking to make his mark on the coaching scene, with his appointment at Carmarthen Quins providing another opportunity to develop his credentials.

Williams will be tasked with helping nurture some of the most promising young talent in the Scarlets region. Among those who could benefit from his knowledge and experience are Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, Ioan Jones, Iori Badham, Jayden Brown, Gabe McDonald and Alfie Luger.

Carmarthen Quins currently sit ninth in the Super Rygbi Cymru table and will hope Williams' arrival can help spark an improvement in performances and results.

The competition has increasingly become an important environment not only for developing players but also for giving aspiring coaches the opportunity to gain valuable experience.

Several former professional players have already taken that route, including ex-Wales hooker Scott Baldwin, former Ospreys centre Joe Thomas and ex-Cardiff full-back Dan Fish, all of whom are building their coaching careers in the competition.

Williams is the latest former international to take on a coaching challenge at this level, and his appointment could prove an important step in what is viewed as a potentially promising coaching career.

With experience at both college and regional age-grade level already behind him, the Quins role offers Williams another platform to demonstrate his ability and potentially earn a route into the professional game.
