Walt Maciborski

Walt Maciborski is an Emmy, Regional Edward R. Murrow, and 2025 Texas TV Broadcaster of the Year award-winning journalist with a career spanning network news and major markets from Los Angeles to London.
As the main anchor for CBS Austin News, Walt brings trusted, dynamic storytelling to Central Texas viewers every evening. He’s also the creator and host of “Tech This Out,” Austin’s only ongoing local technology segment spotlighting Texas innovation—from startup breakthroughs to game-changing research.
Throughout his career, Walt has reported from the front lines of some of the nation’s most pivotal stories. He anchored coverage of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, reported from Superstorm Sandy while embedded with Indiana Task Force 1, and covered the Oklahoma City bombing, the Texas A&M bonfire collapse, and the devastating F-5 tornado that struck Jarrell, Texas. He also followed Governor George W. Bush’s presidential campaign and led CBS Austin’s extended, live coverage during the Austin bomber manhunt, a 19-day period of fear that gripped the city.
Walt’s commitment to meaningful storytelling has earned him multiple honors, including the Barbara Jordan Media Award for his reporting on Texans with disabilities.
Before joining CBS Austin, Walt worked for ABC Network News in Los Angeles and spent time with ABC News London. His career has taken him to top stations in Atlanta (WXIA-TV), Tampa (WFTS-TV), and Indianapolis (WXIN-TV).
A proud Southern California native, Walt graduated from the University of Southern California with a double major in broadcast journalism and political science. He still calls the 2005 National Championship game between USC and Texas the greatest college football game ever—even if his Trojans came up short.
Walt and his wife Kim, a successful Austin real estate agent, met on a blind date and married right here in Austin. They share a love of adventure, travel, and their three sons—who keep them busy on tennis courts and golf courses across Central Texas. When he’s not chasing stories, Walt enjoys time at church, backyard BBQs, and days at the lake with family.
