If it isn’t the biggest question facing the Rangers this offseason, it’s got to be near the top: What will the team do with Corey Seager?
Over the past few weeks, as the Rangers fought for, and ultimately missed out on, a playoff spot, Rangers insiders Evan Grant and Shawn McFarland have tackled the debate with a slew of analysis, interviews, and coverage.
In talking to top team brass, as well as Seager himself, here’s where things stand:
Contract status and no-trade clause
Seager, 33, a two-time World Series MVP with 10 years in the majors and five with the Rangers, earned the ability to block a trade to any team at the end of this season.
He’s signed with the Rangers through the 2031 season on a 10-year, $325 million contract. He will make $31 million in 2027. Given all their other contract obligations, Grant estimates the Rangers have about $15 million to work with this offseason.
