Where Man Utd would finish each Premier League season 2009-2026 with every Man City result erased

How Manchester City’s erasure would impact Manchester United in every season since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover.
Manchester City’s guilty verdict has huge ramifications for the Premier League. Severe punishments are being considered, while clubs including Manchester United are considering legal action.
There are many ‘what if’ scenarios if the City takeover never happened. There is already debate over whether they could be stripped of their titles, and expunged from the record books.
We have recalculated the league table for every season since 2009 (because why stop in 2018?) to see how Manchester United’s league placings would be impacted by City’s results being removed…
Manchester United narrowly lost the title to Chelsea in 2009/10, owing to an offside Didier Drogba goal at Old Trafford. United and Chelsea both took six points from games against City, so they had no impact on the title race.
However, would Carlos Tevez have stayed at United without City luring him away? We suspect he would have made a difference if he stayed…
Manchester United would still have won the title by nine points over second placed Chelsea, with every City result removed.
The big one. No Aguero moment. Manchester United win the league comfortably. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side actually dropped six points against City that season too. United would have finished a staggering 18 points clear of second placed Arsenal.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge of the club saw Manchester United clinch the league with games to spare. United would have finished 12 points clear of second-placed Chelsea.
Manchester United’s woeful season under David Moyes would have been marginally better without City; finishing sixth rather than seventh. This would have earned UEFA Cup qualification. Instead, the club failed to qualify for Europe at all.
Without City, there is a chance David Moyes might have survived the season. His team lost 4-1 away to City and 3-0 at home, two hugely damaging results. He also enraged fans after the second defeat, commenting: “We’ve played a very good side and it’s the sort of standard and level we need to try and aspire to get ourselves to.”
Do you have another one we haven't mentioned? How would history have changed?
Louis van Gaal helped United to bounce back and secure Champions League qualification in fourth. Without City, United would finish third, with Tottenham sneaking in too.
United finished level on points with City in 2015/16, but missed out on Champions League qualification on goal difference. Without City, perhaps Louis van Gaal might have kept his job at least one more year? Alternately, United’s 2016/17 Europa League triumph might never have happened.
Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge at Manchester United ended with two trophies, but the team only finished sixth. Without City, the team would have climbed one place.
Manchester United would have won the 2017/18 Premier League by a single point ahead of Tottenham. Jose Mourinho has expressed previously that he feels he is owed both a medal and a win bonus, if City’s triumph is voided.
A dysfunctional season for Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing Jose Mourinho. The team would jump a place without City in the mix.
Without City’s matches, United would have finished second behind Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be a Premier League winning manager. United would have finished five points clear of second-placed Liverpool.
A difficult season for United. Cristiano Ronaldo’s return – but without City, would United have panicked to bring him back at all?
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United would have jumped a place to finish second, behind Arsenal. But don’t forget – the Red Devils lost the FA Cup Final to City this year.
Tell us what you think of our picks too…
A poor season for Manchester United. Beating City in the FA Cup Final was the only real highlight.
Remove City from the equation and this season actually gets worse. Ruben Amorim took four points from his games against them.
Manchester United would have finished second in the league behind Arsenal, instead of the eventual third place finish.
