Where Opta’s Supercomputer thinks Chelsea will finish in the Premier League after win v Everton

Chelsea have now won back-to-back games in the Premier League after an excellent away victory over Everton on Saturday, and Opta’s Supercomputer has given a renewed prediction.

A brace from Pedro Neto saw Chelsea secure their fourth Premier League win of the season, having won against Fulham, Brighton and Bournemouth. The Blues have also drawn once and lost two games so far.

It’s been a solid start to the season, largely thanks to the wins over Bournemouth and Everton after the international break. Xabi Alonso’s side are where many had predicted them to be this season, in fourth.

As things stand, Chelsea are in fourth position on 13 points from seven games. If they continue that rate throughout the entire season, Chelsea will win 70 points. Last season, that was enough for fourth place.

Opta doesn’t believe Chelsea will finish fourth come next May. Winning at Everton, the Supercomputer predicts Chelsea will end up in fifth. Brighton and Liverpool are projected to get third and fourth place.

Fifth will be enough to secure Champions League football due to the Premier League’s coefficient. But that will be the minimum for Chelsea fans, who had been dreaming of a title challenge in the summer.

Opta also gives a projection for Chelsea’s title chances, and a percentage to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season. Just 2.34% is given for Chelsea to win the Premier League title.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal are north of 46% and Man City just over 41%. But Chelsea’s aim is to get back into the Champions League this season, and their chances are rated at 35.92%. A good chance of qualifying.

Arsenal and City are rated at over 90%, while Brighton have a 56.1% chance. Ultimately, there is plenty of work to do for Alonso and Chelsea. Moving forward, Alonso faces his toughest run as Chelsea manager.

He returns to Anfield on next Wednesday in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, to take on a Liverpool side proving inconsistent under Andoni Iraola. That comes after Tottenham and before Man United.
