#7 LSU vs. #8 Ole Miss: The matchup

Kiffin can anticipate a hostile reception as he faces his former program following his departure from Ole Miss for Southeastern Conference rival LSU. Through two weeks, LSU has validated Kiffin’s national title ambition, averaging 48 points per game in decisive victories over Clemson (51-10) and Louisiana Tech (45-14). After amassing 644 total yards in their marquee opener against Clemson, the Tigers produced 528 yards of offense against Louisiana Tech, overcoming four turnovers. Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw three interceptions in that contest but offset the mistakes with four total touchdowns, including three on the ground, setting the stage for Saturday’s matchup.

Ole Miss enters the contest with an early top-25 victory, having edged No. 24 Louisville 41-38 in Week 1 before routing Charlotte 41-9 last weekend. The Rebels’ unblemished start relies on a dramatic finish against the Cardinals, secured by a 48-yard field goal from kicker Lucas Carneiro as time expired.

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, a former Kiffin pupil, has operated with high efficiency in both outings. Against Louisville, Chambliss recorded 336 passing yards, 60 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns, and followed up by completing 23 of 26 pass attempts against Charlotte.
