Wigan Warriors youngster Jack Purtill makes Leigh Leopards switch ahead of 2027

Leigh Leopards have confirmed the signing of young hooker Jack Purtill from Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2027 season.
Purtill has spent time in the youth ranks at Leeds Rhinos and more recently Wigan, helping the Warriors win the Reserves Grand Final last month.
The 20-year-old did not make a first-team appearance for Wigan, but has previously gained Championship experience with a stint on loan at Swinton Lions.
Purtill will follow in the footsteps of his dad, Kieron Purtill, who represented Leigh during his playing days before going on to coach the men’s and women’s teams during his time at the Leopards, while helping form the club’s scholarship and academy programmes.
“I grew up in Leigh, supported them, so when the opportunity came, I was buzzing, and I couldn’t wait to take it,” said Purtill.
“It means the world to me, and I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got.”
Purtill will bring versatility to Adrian Lam’s Leigh squad, with the youngster being primarily a hooker, but also able to play loose forward and halfback.
“We are happy to bring Jack Purtill to Leigh Leopards,” said Leigh’s director of rugby Andrew Henderson.
“He is a young player from the Leigh area who we have been tracking closely, and adds utility value covering the hooker, halfback and loose forward position. We are excited to add another talented, ambitious individual to our squad.
“At just 20 years of age, Jack has already benefitted from being part of a Super League development system. He displays a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and the qualities we look for in young players who have the potential to develop into Super League performers.
“One of our key objectives as a club is to identify and recruit talented young players who are hungry to improve and eager to challenge themselves in a professional environment. Jack fits that profile perfectly.
“He has genuine potential, but just as importantly, he has the attitude and character required to maximise that potential.
“We believe Leigh is a place where young players can thrive. We have experienced leaders within the squad, an excellent coaching team and a culture that encourages players to work hard, improve daily and earn their opportunities. We’re looking forward to helping Jack continue his development and supporting him on the next stage of his journey.
“This signing reflects our commitment to building not only for the present but also for the future. Jack is a player we’re excited about, and we look forward to seeing his progress in a Leigh Leopards shirt.”
