Hempfield announced Friday night’s football game at Spartan Stadium against Penn-Trafford could be in question because of a power outage caused by intense storms that ripped through Westmoreland County on Thursday night.

Hempfield has canceled classes for Friday.

Storm damage from heavy rain and high winds brought flooding and downed trees across the county. Several schools’ athletic facilities, even those with turf, had water and storm damage.

Penn-Trafford, for example, had one of its baseball dugouts blown down, and Warrior Stadium had standing water.

The campus also lost power. School has been canceled for Friday.

Athletic director Kerry Hetrick said the whole situation will be assessed Friday morning, including the status of the football game.

“Nobody was there to get hurt,” Hetrick said. “That’s all that matters.”

Penn-Trafford is scheduled to host Latrobe-Norwin football Friday night.
