ISTANBUL, Oct 25 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Aston Villa defeated Premier League leaders Manchester City 2-1 at home on Saturday, handing Enzo Maresca's side their first league defeat of the season in the eighth round, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
Nicolas Jackson scored twice for the hosts, while Erling Haaland netted City's only goal.
Aston Villa took the lead in the sixth minute after Marc Guehi's poor control in the City defence allowed the hosts to capitalise. Jackson collected the ball and lifted his shot over goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 1-0.
Haaland equalised shortly after halftime. The Norwegian striker rose highest to meet Iliman Ndiaye's cross and headed the ball into the net for his ninth Premier League goal of the season.
Villa restored their lead in the 60th minute. Jackson met Ibrahim Mbaye's pass inside the penalty area and fired the first time, with the ball going underneath Donnarumma to make it 2-1.
The defeat ended Manchester City's perfect start to the league season after seven consecutive victories.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, recorded their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
Manchester City remained on 21 points, while Aston Villa moved to 11 points.
