World champion boxer sings for Canelo Alvarez at bizarre weigh-in ahead of controversial Riyadh fight

Canelo Alvarez was serenaded by the WBO World Featherweight champion during the weigh-ins for his return fight this weekend.

This coming Saturday, Canelo Alvarez returns to the sport for the first time since last September when he lost his undisputed super middleweight title to Terence Crawford.

The Mexican superstar will take on the WBC world super middleweight champion, Christian Mbilli, in an attempt to reclaim one of his 168lb titles.

But he won’t be the only world champion competing on the card, as on the main card, Rafael Espinoza will defend his WBO world featherweight title against Ricardo Blandon.

At one point, it seemed certain that Canelo’s fight against Mbilli would be postponed or rescheduled for a different location, considering the conflict happening in the Middle East over the past few months. Despite that, Canelo told Turki Alalshikh that he would go ahead with the fight in Saudi Arabia, pledging his support to the consensus savior of boxing.

And ahead of his clash against Mbilli in Saudi Arabia this Saturday, Canelo and the champion stepped onto the scales to make their fight official, with both fighters making the requisite weight. And just a matter of minutes after weighing in for his own fight, the aforementioned Espinoza broke out into song, in what was a bit of an awkward moment.

During Espinoza’s song, Canelo stood there looking awkwardly, before applauding the 32-year-old once he had finished his song. “Espinoza should just go 100% into a singing career,” one fan commented about the 28-0 world champion.

“There’s actually levels to this d— riding s—,” another fan criticized Espinoza. “This is plan B when he retires,” a third fan said. Espinoza is hoping to make his fifth title defense before potentially going for one of the other featherweight world titles.
