Report: Up To 10 Teams In Talks With Red Wings On Simon Edvinsson

The Detroit Red Wings continue to have trade talks about Simon Edvinsson with up to 10 teams, including the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, even though interim GM Shawn Horcoff still wants to sign him. “Horcoff still wants to sign him and is still holding out hope there, but he continues to have trade talks,” LeBrun said on Tuesday’s Insider Trading. “There are up to 10 teams that continue to be involved in these talks, and I’m told the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins are among the teams that are interested.” Edvinsson’s Camp Sees A Trade As The Logical Step LeBrun reported that Edvinsson and his agent, J.P. Barry, met face-to-face with Horcoff late last week without a breakthrough, and he said Edvinsson “feels this has dragged out so long that the most logical option for him is probably a trade.” Edvinsson hasn’t formally requested a trade, LeBrun said, though Elliotte Friedman reported earlier this month that he prefers one. Horcoff said October 14, “I have zero interest in trading Simon Edvinsson. I want to keep him,” and LeBrun’s update suggests Detroit is keeping its options open while that stance holds. Edvinsson is 23, was the sixth overall pick in 2021, had 25 points in 72 games last season while averaging a career-high 22:21 a night, and hasn’t played this season as an unsigned restricted free agent. He has until December 1 to sign, or he’ll be ineligible to play in the NHL for the rest of the season. The Market And The Price LeBrun reported October 8 that at least 10 teams had inquired about Edvinsson, including Boston, and the new wrinkle is that those talks are described as ongoing and that San Jose is among the interested clubs. If Detroit does trade him, LeBrun said teams should look to the Mikhail Sergachev, Noah Dobson, and Bowen Byram trades as the best comparables for what a young defenseman costs. David Pagnotta reported earlier this month that Edvinsson is seeking a maximum seven-year deal worth between $9 million and $11 million a year, and there has been described a sizeable gap between the sides. LeBrun has also reported that ownership gave Horcoff full authority to finalize an extension, so a deal remains possible before the December 1 deadline.

Why Edmonton Oilers players are giving out a crowbar after wins

The Edmonton Oilers are already shaking up their postgame win tradition. At the start of the season, it was revealed that the team was awarding the player of the game an original Wayne Gretzky Oilers helmet. That was a switch-up from last season, when the team gave out two awards: a piece of a pump jack and a high-vis vest. With Edmonton picking up their seventh victory of the season against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night, it seems the Oilers wanted to make a return to the two-award system. In addition to the Gretzky helmet, a new award appeared after the thrilling 4-3 OT win over the Wild. Leon Draisaitl, who notched two goals in the win, addressed the locker room postgame and said the team would add a crowbar as a new award for their after-win celebrations. “Gonna add something to our postgame celebration,” Draisaitl said while reaching into a drawer at his stall. “We got the f**king crowbar! This is going to the guy that f**king battled his ass off the hardest: Sheasy, five blocks.” > Goodnight, Oil Country 🪖 #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/zB6eQd8QSF > > — Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) October 21, 2026 If the Gretzky helmet is meant for the most impactful player in an Oilers victory, the crowbar sounds like it’ll go to the hardest-working player. Owen Michaels was the first player to receive the helmet after scoring his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 1, and Ryan Shea got the inaugural crowbar on Tuesday night. The 29-year-old defenceman didn’t record a single point in the win, but he led the team with five blocked shots. Edmonton has had a tradition of giving out two post-game awards to players after wins for a couple of seasons now. It seemed a little strange that they started the season with only one, but perhaps all the winning drew attention to the fact that some players weren’t being properly recognized for their efforts. Oilers fans will hope to see the helmet-and-crowbar combination a lot more over the season and into the playoffs. How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
