Roberto De Zerbi Says He 'Kissed Bentancur In Dressing Room' After Red Card

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi made an unexpected admission after his side earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, revealing that he kissed Rodrigo Bentancur in the dressing room following the midfielder’s red card. De Zerbi acknowledged that the dismissal was a mistake but praised the fighting spirit Tottenham showed to rescue a point at Old Trafford. De Zerbi Explains Reaction To Bentancur’s Red Card Manchester United looked set to claim all three points after Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Tottenham’s task became harder five minutes later when Bentancur was sent off for headbutting Luke Shaw during a heated confrontation. The incident followed a challenge by Bentancur and Shaw’s reaction, with the Tottenham midfielder shown a straight red card. Spurs were left to finish the contest with 10 men as they searched for a late response. However, De Zerbi viewed the reaction from his players as an important sign of character. Speaking after the match, the Italian revealed how he responded to Bentancur in the dressing room. “I kiss Bentancur in the dressing room. Football is character,” De Zerbi said, explaining that Tottenham needed to show greater determination when facing adversity. The manager also made clear that he did not consider the red card itself acceptable. He praised the refusal to surrender but acknowledged that Bentancur had chosen the wrong way to express his frustration. Dominic Solanke Rescues Tottenham With Late Equaliser Despite being a player down, Tottenham continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded in stoppage time. Dominic Solanke headed home Sandro Tonali’s cross in the 92nd minute to secure a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. De Zerbi said he appreciated the way his team responded after the dismissal, arguing that the players showed greater courage and energy while under pressure. “We have not accepted the defeat. We have to react in all ways we can. It is a bad way, it is not the right way,” he said. The result gave Tottenham a point after they had threatened to leave Manchester empty-handed. For De Zerbi, the late goal was evidence of the resilience he wants to see from his squad, although Bentancur’s dismissal also underlined the need to channel that aggression more effectively.

IND vs WI: Shai Hope Set To Break Chris Gayle's 3 Major Records

Chris Gayle has several remarkable records to his name in T20 International cricket, but West Indies captain Shai Hope now has a chance to surpass the legendary batter in three major categories. After producing a match-winning century against India in the second T20I, Hope will look to continue his impressive form in the third encounter. India posted a formidable 249 in the second T20I, but the West Indies chased down the target in style to level the five-match series 1-1. Hope led from the front with an unbeaten 102 off just 45 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford smashed 84 off 37 deliveries. Shai Hope's stunning knock not only helped the visitors register a memorable victory but also brought him closer to some of Gayle's long-standing T20I records. If he delivers another big performance in the third match, he could move ahead of the former West Indies opener in three categories. 1. Most T20I Centuries For West Indies Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Shai Hope have each scored two centuries in T20 Internationals for the West Indies. Hope joined the pair after his hundred in the second match against India. If the West Indies captain scores another century in the third T20I, he will become the first among them to register three T20I hundreds for the team, moving to the top of this list. 2. Most T20I Runs For West Indies Shai Hope is also on the verge of overtaking Gayle's tally of T20I runs for the West Indies. Gayle scored 1,899 runs in the format, while Hope has 1,897 to his name. The gap is just two runs, meaning Hope needs three more runs to surpass Gayle and claim the record. He could achieve the milestone early in his innings in the third T20I. 3. Most Fours In T20 Internationals For West Indies Chris Gayle has hit 158 fours in T20 Internationals for the West Indies, while Hope has struck 148. The captain therefore needs 11 boundaries to go past the former opener's tally. Although this record may require a more substantial boundary-hitting effort, Hope's current form gives him an opportunity to close the gap. Can Shai Hope Lead West Indies To Another Win? With the series level at 1-1, the third T20I presents Hope with an opportunity to strengthen his team's position while chasing three major records associated with Gayle. It remains to be seen how many milestones the West Indies captain can achieve and whether he can guide his side to another victory against India.

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

How the news feed works

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
