3 Forwards the Oilers Could Get For a Depth Defenseman in Trade

The Edmonton Oilers could turn their defensive surplus into help down the middle. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Edmonton has explored a “lateral trade — maybe a defenceman for a forward” as injuries test its forward depth.

4 Pending Free Agent head Coaches On Hot Seat This Season

Over the last month or so, we've seen a number of NHL head coaches sign extensions, including Jared Bednar with the Colorado Avalanche, Martin St. Louis with the Montreal Canadiens, John Hynes (Minnesota Wild), and Ryan Warsofsky (San Jose Sharks). There are still four head coaches, however, who are playing out this season with the proverbial "lame-duck status"—on the final year of their deals. Joel Quenneville in Anaheim, Scott Arniel in Winnipeg, Rick Bowness in Columbus, and Andrew Brunette in Nashville. And in all four cases, a big year could be needed to save their jobs. But according to insider Pierre LeBrun on TSN Insider Trading, two of these situations bear particular watching, more than the others. Quenneville being without an extension 'is interesting', says insider " Quenneville is interesting, you know, given his pedigree and stature, still not extended. My sense from poking my nose in that is that no one’s worried about it, that at some point the Ducks will address that," said LeBrun. The Ducks earned their first playoff berth last season in eight years in Quenneville's first season behind the bench, so he's earned some credits. But a big falloff this season could lead Anaheim to consider a younger candidate. Scott Arniel needs to have good season to save his job with Jets "I don’t know about Arniel and Winnipeg, to be honest," added LeBrun. "I think the Jets are probably comfortable letting this ride out for a while and see where the season goes. Remember, they missed the playoffs last year and not everyone was 100% sure that Arniel would be brought back as coach. So I think in his case, he may have to coach through the year on an expiring deal." In Columbus, Bowness is 71, going on 72 this season, so it's only natural that his situation is year to year. But after his epic meltdown at the end of last season , and his early frustration with his team on a couple of occasions already this campaign, it remains to be seen how much longer he wants to do it, even if the Blue Jackets want to keep him. “We had plans for next week, they’ve all changed. We’ve got work to do.” #CBJ coach Rick Bowness after tonight’s loss — Dave Maetzold (@DMaetzMedia) October 4, 2026 Brunette, notes LeBrun, has a team option for next season, but we'll have to see if the Predators make some progress this year towards a playoff spot before his status for 2027-28 will come into focus.

Stuart Skinner Might Be Ready for His Breakout Season

I was really happy to see Stuart Skinner get this one. The Winnipeg Jets beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Sunday, and Skinner stopped 33 of 35 shots. That's a pretty good way to earn your first win with a new team.

Oilers Reportedly Exploring a Lateral Trade

The Edmonton Oilers are exploring the trade market, but their next move could be a modest adjustment rather than a major acquisition. With injuries thinning their forward group and eight defencemen competing for minutes, Edmonton has an opportunity to turn blue-line depth into help up front.

How to watch Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders

Two old-school, bitter NFL rivals will square off in Sin City on Sunday afternoon as two of the league’s remaining unbeatens clash in a divisional battle. One of the NFL’s best rivalries gets an unusually high-stakes early-season chapter on Sunday, Oct. 4, as the Las Vegas Raiders (3-0) host the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) at Allegiant Stadium. The two AFC West rivals are tied atop the division, and this will mark the first time they have ever met with both teams 3-0 or better. Kansas City has dominated the rivalry for most of the Patrick Mahomes era, but Las Vegas has a chance to make a very different kind of statement by handing the Chiefs their first loss and taking sole possession of first place. The game will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET and will air on CBS . If you are looking for a live TV streaming service to watch the game, we recommend doing so with a five-day free trial to DIRECTV . Watch a preview of Raiders vs. Chiefs Can you watch Raiders vs. Chiefs for free? If you are just looking for a streaming service to watch this specific game and nothing else, there are options available for you. DIRECTV , Hulu + Live TV , Fubo , and YouTube TV all offer free trials, but they vary in length, so be wary. DIRECTV’s industry-leading trial runs for five days, while Hulu + Live TV’s is a solid three days. Those are pretty straightforward, but when it comes to the sports-minded streamer Fubo, things can get a little complicated. As The Streamable’s expert David Satin discovered when signing up for the services, figuring out how long Fubo’s trial is — even as you are signing up — can be a bit difficult . Nonetheless, it will be at least one day, with the potential to be as many as seven, depending on a wide range of factors that Fubo does not share publicly. The YouTube TV trial is said to be “up to two weeks,” but can be as short as two days. So it is difficult to ascertain what you are actually getting before you go through the signup process. If you are looking to watch the game for free, I would recommend DIRECTV , because that streamer has the longest guaranteed free trial and gives you the best channel options. As mentioned above, Paramount+ also has a free trial, but that is not a live TV streaming service in the same way that the rest of the options are. It will only provide you live access to NFL games and UEFA Champions League soccer on the Essentials tier, and what is being broadcast on your CBS affiliate on the Paramount+ Premium tier. DIRECTV Fubo Hulu Sling TV YouTube Free Trial Free Trial Free 3-Day Trial Save with Sling Free Trial $20.99 $9.99 $28.99 $19.99 $29.99 $45.99 $45.99 $64.99 CBS + $24 + $59 + $61 - - - - ✓ What are all of the streamers you can use to watch the Raiders vs. Chiefs? Fortunately for football fans, there are six different streaming services that will stream the game, so you have options to choose from if you don’t already subscribe to any of them. We discussed DIRECTV and the free trial options above, but there is one more, and it offers a different type of streaming arrangement. Ultimately, there are tons of different ways to stream the game, and while we recommend DIRECTV as the best way to stream this game, you have plenty of options to find the platform that meets your needs. Additionally, live mobile games generally cannot be cast to a TV. Levi got pep talk from Frederik Andersen that helped fuel big Edmonton Oilers win

You can never discount the advantage of a veteran presence in the NHL. Despite a shorthanded lineup, the Edmonton Oilers found a way to defeat the Seattle Kraken by a score of 3-1 on Saturday night. Leon Draisaitl notched a late game-winner, and rookie Owen Michaels scored in his second-straight game, but Devon Levi was undoubtedly the story of the game for Edmonton. The 24-year-old netminder didn’t exactly have the sparkling debut against the Vancouver Canucks that everybody anticipated on Thursday night, allowing seven goals on 22 shots. A start like that has the potential to shake a young goalie’s confidence, but that wasn’t the case for Levi. He was solid between the pipes vs. Seattle, stopping 19 of 20 shots, including an incredible game-saving play off Jordan Eberle in the third period to keep the game tied. “Feels good, obviously. I personally walk away from that Vancouver game just with the win. That’s all I take from that game. Turn the page and get to work the next day,” Levi told reporters after Saturday’s victory. “Knowing the coaches trust me, the boys trust me, definitely improves confidence as a goalie. “I think the support system here has been amazing so far, and it definitely feels good.” > “It’s amazing, I’m so happy to be here. One of the best places to play in sports.” > > Devon Levi shares his thoughts with the media following his first victory at Rogers Place. @Enterprise | #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/aXiYYVuhD5 > > — Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) October 4, 2026 One of the most important players in that support system has apparently been Frederik Andersen. The reigning Stanley Cup champion goaltender has been seldom seen around the Oilers as he rehabs from an injury, but he’s been working with Levi behind the scenes. Head coach Mike Babcock told reporters that Levi is a confident goaltender, but having a veteran like Andersen with the team has been critical to his NHL transition. “I thought Freddy Andersen did a heck of a job with him the other day,” Babcock told reporters. “He’s talking to him about tightness, and Freddy’s been through it, lived it… To have a guy like that in your organization that can share his experience with young guys, I think helps them.” > “Michs has done an unbelievable job coming in here. He’s always in the video in the right spots. We’re lucky to have him.” > > Coach Babcock on #Oilers rookie Owen Michaels' play through his first three games.@Enterprise | #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/5Euv3Z27cm > > — Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) October 4, 2026 Though Levi spent four seasons in the Buffalo Sabres organization, he told reporters that having a player like Andersen to talk to is a new experience. One that appears to have paid off after a rough Oilers debut. “Freddy has been awesome so far,” Levi said. “Some great conversations with him, a lot of support from him too. I’ve never really had a veteran goalie on my team in the goalie system, so having his support, he’s been through so much. “Hearing what he has to say, his leadership also has been super helpful too. So I’m super happy he’s around.” > Catch of the day 🐟#LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/gBHzSepLbm > > — Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) October 4, 2026 The first two games of the season weren’t exactly encouraging from the Oilers goaltenders, but Levi proved that he has the potential to turn in a solid performance. Moving forward, he’ll have every opportunity to wrestle away Edmonton’s starting job from a struggling Tristan Jarry.

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
