Report: Canadiens Tell Red Wings They're Serious About Dylan Larkin

Montreal hasn't moved on from Dylan Larkin. According to David Pagnotta , the Canadiens have told Detroit they'd be serious about a deal. Pagnotta shared the update on TheMugNHL Show . "I think they're in the wait-and-see mode," Pagnotta said. "I think they've made clear to Detroit that if he's willing to go to Montreal, that they'd be serious about it." The catch is that Montreal isn't on Larkin's approved list. His contract includes a no-trade clause, so he decides where he goes. He initially told the Red Wings he'd accept a move only to Florida, Minnesota, or Vegas. Montreal Is Waiting On Larkin Pagnotta reported September 27 that Montreal is one of six clubs that have checked in on Larkin since June. The others are Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, Carolina, and San Jose. None of them has gotten a deal done, but Montreal has shown it's willing to chase a star. Dylan Larkin got BOO'D during the Wings home opener intros 😳 https://t.co/x58up8q11S — B/R Open Ice (@BR_OpenIce) October 2, 2026 The Canadiens pushed hardest for Kirill Marchenko before Toronto won that bidding, and insider Pierre LeBrun said afterward the Canadiens "will still be big-game hunting." Larkin has 643 career points, 276 goals and 367 assists, all with Detroit. His cap hit is $8.7 million, the biggest on the Red Wings' roster. Detroit's Situation Keeps Getting Louder Larkin asked for a trade in June, lost the captaincy, and reported to training camp anyway. He then got hurt working out, and Detroit placed him on non-roster injured reserve, retroactive to August 15, hours before the season opener. Red Wings fans booed him loudly during introductions Friday, with many holding signs calling for a trade, and Detroit ultimately losing the game 2-0 to the Rangers. The Red Wings have missed the playoffs 10 straight years. David Pagnotta: Re Dylan Larkin trade list: He's sitting around 10 teams as far as I know now, about 8 to 10, I think it's 10 - Hello Hockey (10/3) — NHL Rumour Report (@NHLRumourReport) October 5, 2026 Coach Todd McLellan is hoping Larkin is ready for Tuesday's game against Ottawa. "I'm hoping Game 3," he said. If his list of acceptable teams grows, Montreal has told Detroit it's ready, but for now, the Canadiens are still off the list.

Report: Oilers Eyeing Recently Waived Bruins Forward

The Edmonton Oilers have a lot of injured forwards and a lot of defensemen. According to Elliotte Friedman , one fix they're looking at is Boston's Michael Eyssimont. Friedman brought it up on Monday's 32 Thoughts while walking through Edmonton's injuries up front. "I know they're looking at someone like an Eyssimont," Friedman said. "Depending on the contract situation, we'd see how they felt." Edmonton Would Rather Pay With A Defenseman Friedman first reported Saturday that the Oilers had explored a "lateral trade," a defenseman for a forward. On Monday, he repeated that Edmonton would prefer to move one of its depth defensemen. "I don't know if Boston would be interested in one of the depth defencemen on the Edmonton roster," Friedman said. "But the Oilers would prefer to move one of their depth defencemen, Spencer Stastney maybe." The cap helps explain it. Cleared Eyssimont (BOS) & Giles (SJ) on waivers — Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) October 4, 2026 PuckPedia has Edmonton at $761,666 in cap space, currently. Eyssimont's cap hit is $1.45 million. Zach Hyman is out about two weeks, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jason Dickinson, and Mattias Janmark are all on injured reserve. Goalie Frederik Andersen and defenseman Alec Regula are also out. Eyssimont Cleared Waivers On Monday Boston placed Eyssimont on waivers Sunday for the purpose of assignment to Providence. He then cleared Monday afternoon and was assigned to the AHL. He'd been a healthy scratch for all three Bruins games, and the move came as Matthew Poitras was expected back from injured reserve. Eyssimont is 30 and signed with Boston as a free agent in July 2025 on a two-year deal. He played 56 games for the Bruins last season, scoring eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points. He has 269 career NHL games with Winnipeg, San Jose, Tampa Bay, Seattle, and Boston.

About the news

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

How the news feed works

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
