Eala advances to quarterfinal round in Tokyo

Alex Eala finally broke her Asian swing "second round wall" after dispatching Talia Gibson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, at the WTA 500 Tokyo Open round of 16 in Japan Wednesday evening. Recovering from a close first set loss, the Filipino tennis ace and world No. 19 Eala dominated the Australian and No. 38 Gibson to reach her first quarterfinals appearance in the Asian swing of the 2026 WTA Tour. Eala also extended her mastery against Gibson to three matches, defeating the latter twice before in the ITF circuit. With the win, tournament No. 8 seed Eala forged a rematch witn No. 3 Diana Shnaider who defeated her at the Ningbo Open last week. Shnaider ousted Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-3, 5-6, 6-3, in their second round clash on Wednesday.

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
