Fleetwood boxer Joseph Walker building support base after winning first pro fight

Fleetwood boxer Joseph Walker is eager to get back into the ring after winning his debut professional bout in Blackpool, writes JAMES BOVINGTON.
Super-welterweight Joseph didn’t drop a single point on referee Jamie Kirkpatrick’s scorecard as he defeated Manchester’s Dale Arrowsmith on a Winter Gardens show organised by Steve Wood’s VIP Boxing.
Joseph is coached by Josh O’Gara at JFT Boxing and managed by Leeds-based Glenn Banks.
O’Gara said: “Joseph took on a tough opponent for his first bout and showed his potential. I’ve been training him for several years, and given how he dominated in the amateurs we fast-tracked him into the professionals.
"Joseph’s next bout is with another experienced boxer, Ricky Leach (in December). Joseph might be the underdog but he’s no stranger to travelling far and wide.”
Manager Banks added: “Joseph boxed to instruction and picked his shots well to outpoint the experienced Arrowsmith. He showed a good skill level and this was valuable experience.”
Walker himself said: “I’m delighted to have joined the paid ranks after 40 bouts as an amateur and to have made my debut while still a teenager. I turn 20 this month and it was time for this new challenge."
Joseph works in a dental laboratory and thanked those who bought tickets for his pro debut.
"I’m grateful to the hundred or so who supported me as the onus is very much on novice professionals like me to establish themselves through ticket sales,” he said.
"I’m hoping for even more support when I next box. My ambition is to bring title belts to the Fylde coast.”
Joseph is scheduled to fight Leach on the ‘Winter War’ promotion at the Fusion Night Club in Liverpool on Friday, December 4.
