Robert Griffin III has said for years that he wants another shot at an NFL quarterback job.
That hasn’t come to fruition. So now, the Fox Sports college football analyst is shifting his focus to a different role: college football head coach.
The Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback made the rounds on Monday after Baylor fired head coach Dave Aranda, making it clear he believes he is the man for the job.
Griffin stopped by The Dan Patrick Show on Monday and made his case.
“If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn’t just respectable on the football field, but one the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor.” — @RGIII says he’s interested in the Baylor head coaching job. 🐻🏈 https://t.co/tgrnYZM0nQ
“Yes, 100 percent,” Griffin said when asked if he’s interested in the job. “If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn’t just respectable on the football field, but the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor. So yeah, I would 100 percent be interested. I’ve talked with the athletic director, who is a guy, Doug McNamee, that knows what it looks like to win at Baylor.”
RGIII also stopped by The Herd with Colin Cowherd and offered similar sentiments about his ability to step into the head coaching role and return the Bears to their brief stint near the top of college football.
“I would love to be the head coach at Baylor University. The fans deserve a winner… I know I could do it.” 👀

“100%,” he said when asked if he’d throw his name in the ring. “I’d love to be the head coach at Baylor University. I think the fans deserve a winner. Deserve a team to be proud of. Deserve a team they can be excited about.
“It’s just a matter of if they see it that way, and if they trust a guy that doesn’t have any head coaching experience to come into there and really take care of the university in the right way. I know I could do it.”
Griffin is gilding the lily a bit by noting he has no head coaching experience. He actually has no coaching experience of any kind, let alone the kind needed to run a Big 12 college football program. And while he’s right that he represents football success at Baylor, Griffin has since become better known for engagement baiting, wild online feuds, hot takes, and floating himself for roles he’s not qualified for, like head coach at Baylor.
The Fox Sports analyst also mentioned a few candidates who might actually make sense as Baylor’s next head coach, including Boise State’s Spencer Danielson, UTSA’s Jeff Traylor, and USC’s Lincoln Riley.
