Rivalry Rebound: Packers Turn Corner Versus Bears

The Green Bay Packers were finally able to put together a complete performance on Sunday, and who better to show up than the bitter rival Bears?

Jordan Love, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden showed just how dangerous this offense can be when it’s given the time to operate, and thanks to the new look offensive line, it seems like Green Bay might actually have the ship headed in the right direction.

Let’s take a look at the performances that defined Sunday’s matchup.

Since the departure of Davante Adams, one criticism of the Green Bay Packers’ offense has remained consistent: the lack of a true WR1.

Although I’m sure many fans would argue that that distinction hasn’t really mattered, as the room has been chalk full of all most too much talent at times in the past few seasons, it has been a talking point in the media for years.

This season, there’s no debate.

Christian Watson is doing things that the NFL hasn’t seen since Jerry Rice, and Matthew Golden is more than just a suitable sidekick.

On Sunday, both were at the heights of their powers.

Prior to the ACL tear that he suffered in January of 2025, Christian Watson had had an up and down career with Green Bay Packers.

He’d flashed potential, but injuries were consistently keeping him away from the field, and there was some speculation as to whether or not Green Bay would extend him long-term after he signed a one year bridge deal during his recovery in September.

Since his return to gridiron in Week 8 of last season, however, Watson has been all systems go, and the Packers offense has looked like a completely different beast when he’s healthy.

Through five weeks, Watson has produced four hundred and seventy-four receiving yards and six touchdowns on just twenty-six receptions.

Heading into Monday Night Football, that places the former NDSU product in the top five in yardage, and just behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba in touchdowns.

One hundred and forty-three of those yards and two of the scores came against the rival Bears alone, and it doesn’t seem like Watson will be slowing down any time soon.

He’s meeting marks that were set by the greatest to ever play the position, and now, there’s another legitimate pass-catching threat opening up the field for him.

Christian Watson has 25-plus catches, six-plus TD receptions and an average of 18.0-plus yards per catch in the first five games of 2026. He is the first NFL player to hit those marks in the first five games of a season since Jerry Rice in 1986. #GoPackGo

After a debut season in which he was severely underutilized and prematurely called a bust, Matthew Golden has opened 2026 with a bang.

In just five games, Golden has seen as many targets as he did in his entire rookie campaign, and the flashes he showed then haven’t been flukes.

2025 targets: 442026 targets: 44

2025 receiving yards: 3612026 receiving yards: 397

2025 TD catches: 02026 TD catches: 2

Against Chicago, Golden’s rise continued to the tune of one-hundred and twenty-three yards on six catches, which was good enough for a career best.

As a result of that performance, Watson and Golden become the first Packers duo with six-plus catches and one hundred and twenty receiving yards a piece since Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams did it against the Titans in 2016.

It’s undeniable that the Green Bay Packers have a top three pass-catching duo in the NFL right now, and with a collection of sub-par defenses to look forward to in the next couple of weeks, an All-Pro season at the position could be a possibility.

Top WR duos in NFL this season:

GB Christian Watson/Matthew Golden: 50 catches, 871 yards, 8 TDs.

DAL Ceedee Lamb/George Pickins: 66 catches, 862 yards, 5 TDs.

From the source CIN Ja’Marr Chase/Tee Higgins: 54 catches, 712 yards, 5 TDs.#Packers tandem has been THAT good

Given the strength of Green Bay’s pass-catching lineage, that’s certainly nothing to scoff at.

There’s not doubt that the receiving talent has been elite thus far, but their productivity would be significantly diminished without the man at the helm, quarterback Jordan Love.

Despite the fact that the Green Bay Packers opened the season with an offensive line that left him to the wolves, Love has continued to stand tall, and on Sunday, his efforts were rewarded with a franchise-level performance.

In his career against the rival Bears, Love has always been stellar, but he took it to another level in the latest contest, throwing for three hundred and sixty-seven yards, the most that any Green Bay Packers quarterback has ever thrown for against the Bears at Lambeau Field.

Most Pass Yards by Packers QB vs Bears at Lambeau Field

Jordan Love 367 (Sunday)Lynn Dickey 345 (1983)Aaron Rodgers 341 (2021)Brett Favre 336 (1995)Brett Favre 333 (2000)

As I mentioned before, the Packers will be facing some defenses in the coming weeks that should be easy to carve up, and with the improved offensive line play, Love has been back to his normal self.

If all goes well, Green Bay could have the chance to put the league on notice before Micah Parsons’ return, which would be a welcome change after the pain of the first few weeks of the season.
