Updated: Week 6 Injury Report (Buccaneers)

Saturday Injury Update: Tight end Pat Freiermuth has been added to the injury report with a calf injury and questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs.

In addition, receiver DK Metcalf (illness) has been removed from the injury report and has no injury designation.

Friday Injury Report: The Steelers wrapped up their preparation for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and as Coach Mike McCarthy indicated at the start of the week, receivers Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek have both been ruled out. DK Metcalf was added to the injury report, listed as questionable with an illness.

Skowronek's absence gwon't just be felt by the offense, but also on special teams, where he was selected to the Pro Bowl Games in 2025.

"He's a productive player," said special teams coordinator Danny Crossman. "He's made some game-changing plays over the years. So that's the biggest thing you miss, guys being able to play at a high level and make impact plays.

"That's the biggest thing you're going to miss. We had to adjust during the course of the (Colts) game. It's a shame. He played the game like it's supposed to be played.

"We'll miss him. Hopefully he gets healthy and gets back as soon as possible."

Veteran DK Metcalf is the go-to guy for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and rookie Germie Bernard is becoming a trusted option as well.

"I think it's just continuing to grow and get better each week, understand the offense, understand what's required of him," said Angelichio. "Germie's done that. I think with each week we'll see him get more and more comfortable and settle into the offense. Him and Aaron, the more they play together, the more that Germ will anticipate what Aaron is going to do.

"Germ offers you so much flexibility because he's such a good blocker and he's good with the ball in his hands. He's a strong runner. He can break tackles. You can give him the ball on a jet sweep. You can throw him a ball in the flat. And he's good enough to go in and block safeties and linebackers in the run game.

"There's a lot we can do with Germ."

Another option is receiver Brandon Smith, who was elevated from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive Roster for the Colts game.

"He's steady. He's always got a smile on his face, and he works hard," said Angelichio. "With Brandon, he was in there in plays (against the Colts) and he didn't get any reps during the week. He certainly stepped in and did a great job.

"I think that's the accountability that you're looking for from these players. You've always got to be ready. When your number is called, you've got to deliver, and Brandon did that."

The Steelers also have options in Isaiah Hodgins and Brandon Johnson, who are also on the practice squad.

"We have confidence in all of them," said Angelichio. "We're not just coaching the guys that are playing or starting. We're coaching them all.

"So, when they get that opportunity, we're building that depth because you're going to need them all at some point during the season."

Metcalf knows how hard those on the practice squad work, often without any credit or fanfare. He is hoping this week they get their opportunity this week.

"I'm just waiting for them to suit up and show what they're going to do on Sunday," said Metcalf. "They've definitely been making plays out on the practice field since training camp, so I'm happy for them to get an opportunity to showcase what they can do."

Being on the practice squad means a lack of reps with the starting offense, but Metcalf said there is value in watching and communicating as a unit.

"It comes with trust," said Metcalf. "They have to sit back and basically watch us during the week, during the practices. So, they never get those real time reps.

"It's taking them through our thought process when it comes to a route or a play call or anything like that."
